This drill teaches first touch and passing accuracy while building movement. Kids learn to receive, turn, and pass in one motion.

Equipment needed: Four cones, 4-8 kids in groups of four, 2-3 soccer balls per group.

Setup: Mark a 10-by-10-yard square with cones. Four kids stand at each cone, one ball to start.

How to run it:

  1. Kid at cone 1 passes to Kid at cone 2.
  2. Kid at cone 2 receives, turns, and passes to Kid at cone 3.
  3. Kid at cone 3 receives, turns, and passes to Kid at cone 4.
  4. Kid at cone 4 receives, turns, and passes back to cone 1.
  5. After each pass, the passer follows the pass and takes the next kid’s spot (rotates clockwise).
  6. Do this for five minutes continuous, building rhythm.

What to look for: Reception and touch. Good first touch is the whole game. A bad first touch forces a bad pass.

Variation: For younger kids (8-9), make the square bigger (15 by 15 yards) and pass only when called. For older kids (10), add a second ball so there are two passes happening at once.
