The bottom hand drives the swing. When a batter gets weak, it’s often because the bottom hand has relaxed. Tee work with focus on the bottom hand builds that power.

What you need: A tee, 15 soft baseballs (12”), an age-appropriate bat, a net.

Setup: Tee at mid-thigh height. Batter in Set position with emphasis on the bottom hand grip.

How to run it:

  1. Before swinging, focus on the bottom hand. Grip firm, not tense.
  2. Set, Load, Step, Swing. On each swing, cue “bottom hand drives.”
  3. Do 10 swings and listen. Does the bottom hand snap through or drift?
  4. Do 10 more swings at a higher tee position (mid-chest). Does the bottom hand still lead?
  5. Do 5 swings with a slightly different grip width. Hands closer together. Do 5 more wider apart.

What to watch: Does the bottom hand stay extended through the ball? Or does it bend and fold? Extended is stronger.

If they’re struggling: Use a lighter bat. Swing slower. Focus on mechanics, not power.

If they’ve got it: Add a one-handed swing (bottom hand only). Do 5 reps to build isolated strength.
