Throwing to a target gives the throw direction and purpose. A bucket makes the target big, hard to miss, and honest feedback when the ball lands in it.

What you need: A bucket or laundry crate, 10 soft baseballs (11”), open space.

Setup: Set a bucket on the ground 15 feet away. Kid stands facing the bucket with feet shoulder-width apart.

How to run it:

  1. Cue: Turn, Shuffle, Point, Fire.
  2. They step toward the bucket, turn their shoulders, point the glove at the bucket, and fire.
  3. Do 5 throws. Count how many land in the bucket. That’s their score.
  4. Move back to 20 feet. Do 5 more throws.
  5. Move back to 25 feet. Do 5 more.
  6. At the end, tally total throws in the bucket.

What to watch: Are they aiming or just throwing? You want to see them look at the bucket and adjust.

If they’re struggling: Move the bucket closer to 10 feet. Make the bucket bigger by adding balls around it so they have a larger target area.

If they’ve got it: Shrink the target by using a smaller cone or ball. Move back to 30 feet.
