DBs, receivers, and running backs don’t need a hand on the ground. The 2-point stance gives them more freedom to move in any direction. The key is balance.
What you need: Open grass or field. No equipment needed.
Setup: Line the kids up with 5 feet between each player so they have room to move.
How to run it:
- Cue: Stagger, Bend, Hand, Up.
- Teach Stagger: Feet about shoulder-width apart. One foot slightly forward, one slightly back. It’s a smaller stagger than a 3-point stance.
- Teach Bend: Knees bent just a little. Not as deep as a lineman. They should feel balanced and ready.
- Teach Hand: Both hands are up in front of the chest, ready to react. Elbows in, hands at chest height.
- Teach Up: Eyes forward. They’re looking at what’s in front of them, not down.
- Have them hold the stance and touch their toes to the ground a few times without losing balance. Do 8 reps.
What to watch: Do they look balanced or are they leaning? Leaning means they’re not ready to move side to side.
If they’re struggling: Have them widen their stance a bit more so they feel more stable.
If they’ve got it: Have them shuffle left and right while staying in the 2-point stance. They should stay low and balanced the whole time.
