High school boys soccer has the cleanest dual-track structure in HS sports. The school season runs August through November. The club season runs the other eight months. The kids who play in both have eleven months of competitive soccer, which is more than what AAP recommends.
The August heat-acclimatization window matters. Most state athletic associations require modified practice structure for the first 5-14 days of preseason. Programs that ignore those guidelines are programs that lose kids to heat illness. Read the body hub on heat before week one.
ID camps in June and July are real for college-track players. They are not real at age 13 or 14. Pick your kid’s actual list of target schools at age 15-16 and attend the camps at those schools. Showcase tournaments are how college coaches see kids in volume.
The off-season conversation parents miss: two weeks fully off in December is healthy. A kid who plays year-round soccer through high school is a kid at higher risk for ACL injuries, hip flexor problems, and burnout. The break is not a gap in development. It is part of development.
